You can buy the best motors and the most expensive flight controller, but if your soldering is bad, your drone is a ticking time bomb.
"Cold solder joints" are the #1 killer of FPV builds. This happens when the solder doesn't melt fully into the wire and the pad, creating a weak connection that breaks mid-flight.
3 Tips for the Perfect Joint:
- Heat is your friend: Don't be afraid to set your iron to 400°C (750°F) for big battery pads. You need to heat the pad, not just the wire.
- Flux is magic: Solder contains some flux, but adding extra flux makes the solder flow like water. It’s messy, but it works.
- The Shiny Test: A good joint should look like a shiny, smooth ball. If it’s dull, grey, or spiky, do it again.
Practice makes perfect. And remember, always check your finished build with a multimeter before plugging in the battery!
